On Saturday 15th July a group of Holy Trinity Bickerstaffe church members completed a major tidy up of their graveyard.
The current graveyard has been in use since 1844. The graveyard is maintained during the year by a combination of a contract gardener and church members. The graveyard will be full by the end of the year. The new extension at the back of the current graveyard was consecrated early this year.
Today a lot of vegetation was cleared, trees and bushes also trimmed. Lots of leaves, twigs and litter were removed.
During the morning the first grave used in the churchyard in 1843 was revealed after some tidying.

If anyone would like to contribute to the maintenance of the graveyard, please get in touch with the Vicar or Church Wardens or Deputy Church Warden. Full details are in our church magazine or website www.holytrinitybickerstaffe.co.uk.
The Holy Trinity Bickerstaffe Summer Fair took place at Bickerstaffe today.
The full amount raised will be announced in due course, currently it is around £1300.
A big thank you to everyone who came and everyone who helped.
A big thank-you to all the organisations/companies who donated a raffle prize: Starbucks, Premier Bowl, Booths, The Derby Arms, The Sandpiper, The Rainford Deli, Quattros and other local residents.
All funds raised will go to the church.
On Sunday 2nd July at Holy Trinity Church Bickerstaffe a special commemorative service took place for the new internal church doors.
The new doors replace the original ones and have glass windows, making the church brighter and more welcoming. We can now see people coming into church and this means anyone who needs support can be seen as they approach. This is the first stage of internal improvements some pews are also to be modified in due course.
Edward McCarthy explains: “The doors are funded from a legacy in memory of Mrs Rhoda Critchley who was a well-loved church goer.”
“The Church were awarded funding from the Big Lottery Fund last autumn which has also contributed to the doors project and some additional heater units for inside the church. “
“We would like to thank the Critchley Family for this generous contribution, the doors really make a difference and will be there for many, many years to come.”
“The Doors were made by Simon Parsons of The Woodworkshop, Ormskirk. The Glass and engraving completed by David Jones of Robson’s Glass, Leyland. I would like to thank them for their good work.”
“I would like to thank Merrick for his endless commitment to the doors and all the other work he does behind the scenes.”
“If you would like to see new lovely new doors why not come to one of our services, Sunday mornings at 10:45am.”
